Sweet Treats Galore

Ice cream treats from cups to cones to sundaes on Third Street, scrumptious pastries, cookies or scones just steps away, or a beautiful country drive to taste and buy chocolate fudge and truffles made in a monastery … just the start of sweet treats you’ll find close by.

Ice cream? Pastries? Cookies? Chocolate? So many options … start here!

Who doesn’t love a sweet treat? An ice cream cone on a hot summer day as you’re strolling downtown McMinnville. Or a visit to a quiet Oregon monastery tucked behind a hazelnut orchard for heavenly fudge and truffles. Yes, all in McMinnville or close by.

First … what do we recommend on or near Third Street?

Serendipity Ice Cream, just a few blocks away.

From their website: “In 2019 Serendipity was put on the Oregon Ice Cream Trail map and named one of 10 stops on the trail as a must-try! ‘This trail showcases the best ice cream you’ll find anywhere in the world!’”

Proudly serving Umpqua Ice Cream (the best in Oregon, we agree), they’re ready to tantalize kids and adults alike with ice cream confections, candy, and even espresso. Summertime you’ll notice crowds of families outside with drippy cones in hands and smiles on their faces.

On the corner of Third and Evans, across from Hotel Oregon.

Alchemist’s Jam on Ford Street

Although Jam is their name (and they have beautifully fragrant and flavorful jams made with love from local berries and fruit), most people stop in for coffee and a cookie, or scone or other baked goodie. One we recommend is the buckwheat espresso cookie.

Head down Third Street, turn left on Ford, you’ll find them at 207 SE Ford Street.

Looking for gluten-free baked pastries and donuts? Stop into Bierly Brewing Thursday through Sunday. You won’t believe they’re gluten-free! 624 NE Third Street

A beautiful country drive to an Oregon monastery

The Brigittine Monastery is a scenic drive west on Hwy 18 towards the Coast, or down Hwy 99W to Amity. Watch for the blue signs to make the turns. You’ll find yourself exploring more of the Willamette Valley’s beautiful farmland … hazelnut orchards, grass fields, corn in the summer, grazing cows.

Not as well-known as the monasteries in Lafayette or Mt. Angel, this monastery is famous for their incredible chocolate. So many rave reviews! A selection of their fudge or truffles can be found in McMinnville at NW Food & Gifts on the corner of Third and Evans, or at the Velvet Monkey Tea Shop below La Bella Casa. But for the true experience, take the short country drive to the monastery.

In their tasting room you can taste, just ask!

Explore the full selection of flavors and styles … from Petite Truffles to Original size (huge!) truffles, boxed in collections or single flavors. Of course, the fudge … absolutely heavenly! We highly recommend the Extra Dark Chocolate Orange Fudge. Or for tempting and tasty truffles, try the Coffee, Salted Caramel, or Extra Dark. Plus, the monks are always testing out new flavors … you’ll be in the only place where you can taste the newest confection!

Once you’ve tasted and fallen in love with their glorious chocolate … good news, order chocolate online, they’ll ship to your door when you’re home again!

23300 Southwest Walker Lane, Amity, OR, 97101, or brigittine.org
